You have to come to Greece with your own
SUV/4x4 to make this 13 day tour. Travel to Venice, Italy first
to take the ferry to Patras on the Peloponnese. The Peloponnese
is the most southern part of mainland Greece
being very mountainous with a large variety of tracks leading to
the most beautiful and unspoilt parts. Passing through remote
villages, enjoying
stunning landscapes and visiting some famous archeological sites
this tour
lets you experience the real Greece!
Never being far away from the sea, this tour will follow some
parts of the
unspoilt east coast with wonderful views and amazing bays and
beaches.
Driving to Venice first, a stay for the night is planned at the
Swiss/Italian border. Depending on which date of departure you
choose, the ferry departs for Greece on Mondays or Saturdays at
18.00h.
During the crossing you can choose for a 2 bed outside or inside
cabin with
shower/WC. We will meet you on arrival in Patras port to start
the tour.
We will head in eastern direction through the mountains of the
northern Peloponnese, following tracks and pistes we will end up
in a mountain town for your first night in Greece. Next day we
drive in south east direction, crossing Mt Chelmos and visiting
an observatory at 2300m and visiting a Greek orthodox monastery.
Our final destination for this day is an apartment complex at
the east coast with lovely sea view and swimming pool.
Starting from our apartment, we make an offroad tour through the
Parnon mountains next day.
Going more to the south is our next goal, crossing the Parnon
once more
passing mountain villages, visiting an onto a cliff perched
monastery our destination is a beautiful bay at the east coast.
Here we will stay in a Greek
family run apartment complex and taverna close to a beach and
small port.
Next day is a day off, although we could make a short offroad
drive to a secluded beach....or enjoy the beach within walking
distance!
After our relax day, we head in western direction. Following
tracks, we will
visit a mountain village at 1100m and enjoy the typical terraces
under the plane trees at the village square. Although it will be
difficult to leave the typical atmosphere in this village
behind, we have to move on to our stay for the night: a hotel at
the foot of the Taygetos mountains with spectacular views over
Profitis Ilias summit(2405m)and the Taygetos range.
Next day we will follow a track along the eastern slopes of the
Taygetos range in the direction of the city of Sparta. Close to
Sparta we will visit the
ancient byzantine stronghold of Mistras. Continuing in northern
direction and passing an old Greek temple, we will end our trip
for this day in a village close to the archeological site of
Olympia. Here we will stay in a Greek family run hotel/taverna
with swimming pool.
The last day of your stay in Greece has already come, we will
visit Olympia and then head for Patras port. Because the ferry
to Venice leaves at 00.01h
on Tuesday or Thursday morning, there will be time to relax at a
beach also.
