14 day botanical tour
autumn flowering bulbs
south Peloponnese and Mani
wfriday 23 October--thursday 05 November 2015

A brief summary:
During this tour we pay special attention to the autumn flowering bulbs of the south Peloponnese, like Crocus niveus, Crocus goulimyi, Crocus boryi,
Crocus biflorus ssp melantherus, several Colchicum species, Cyclamen,
Sternbergia sicula, Galanthus reginae-olgae etc.
From our base at Anigraia we will drive to the higher parts of the Parnon mountains. Here we may find Crocus biflorus ssp melantherus.
Also a visit to some mountain villages and monasteries is planned.
Next we will visit the archeological sites of Argos and Mycene. A visit to the, originally Venetian, town of Nafplion is another highlight of this tour.
Our journey continues southward through Mt Parnon and the mountain village of Kosmas and the Elonis monastery to a beautiful bay.
In this bay you will stay in a restored olive oilmill with small taverna close to the beach. Here grow Cyclamen, Sternbergia sicula, Urginea maritima, Crocus niveus and Crocus boryi. Next day brings us to yet another wonderful bay, passing one of the best spots of Crocus goulimyi..
Its now time for a day off in Kiparissi bay!
Along the unspoiled east coast we continue southward to the medieval town
of Monemvasia built on a small peninsula off the east coast. Of course we will walk through the old town and up the rock with its byzantine church and
`rock garden`. You will stay for the night in one of the restored buildings of Monemvasia.
From here we drive to our next destination, a hotel located at the south east
side of Mt Taygetos with panoramic views of Taygetos.
From this hotel we will make several tours, like to the Mani peninsula and an offroad tour along the eastern slopes of Taygetos towards Byzantine Mistras. During this tour we might find Galanthus reginae-olgae.
Day 12 we will return to Anigraia, this time following a different route through Mt Parnon. Day 13 is another day off, but with the possibility to visit the seaside town of Paralio Astros and nearby Moustos wetland.

You will stay in one of the apartments of Anigraia, a group of traditional built
stone houses with swimming pool.
All apartments have 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sitting room with fire place and TV, internet, open plan kitchen, balcony and air conditioning.
Along the swimming pool there are deck chairs available to enjoy the view.
The complex is situated in quiet environs, near the town of Astros and a
5 minutes drive from the beach at Paralio Astros, east coast Peloponnese.
Day 5 stay in restored olive oil mill on the beach.
Day 6 and 7 stay in apartment in Kiparissi bay near beach.
Day 8 stay in a restored house in Monemvasia.
Day 9, 10 and 11 stay in hotel with panoramic views over Mt Taygetos.
